Mangosteen health guidelines

Information to help determine when to take Mangosteen juice.

These guidelines are NOT set in stone. (The only Mangosteen Juice I feel comfortable to recommend is XanGo) by Dr Les Berenson, MD (19 July 05)

Prevention: (No health challenges) – 30ml 2-3x / day with food
One of the greatest advantages is to potentially PREVENT chronic disease (cancer, heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer’s)

Kids, 6-12 yrs.: 1/2 adult serving
Toddlers younger than 6 yrs or infants weaned onto fruit juice: 1/4 adult serving

Minimal health concerns: 60ml 2-3x / day with food

Severe health challenge: 90ml 3x day i.e. severe pain

Cancer protocol: Enquire about the ‘21-day challenge’

Treatment of health concerns: usually between 60ml 2x / day up to 90ml 3x / day.

• Increase amount up to 90ml 3x /day for 1-3 months BEFORE saying Mangosteen Juice doesn’t work.

• Avoid the 1 bottle mentality – 1 bottle is often NOT enough to feel any significant change. It may take several bottles – or even cases to see and feel benefits. Don’t deprive yourself of these benefits by quitting too early. Rest assured that the Mangosteen is working at cellular level to repair damage that you might not even be aware of.

Our experience is that people see significant (even profound) benefits if they use the juice CONSISTENTLY for at least 3 months at the correct dosage.

The half life (length of time the Mangosteen juice works in the body) is short, about 4 hours, so treatment of more severe pain and other severe conditions MAY need more frequent usage.

Take Mangosteen juice with food; some of the xanthones are fat soluble and need to have fats in order to be utilised by the body. It can be as simple as a few almonds taken at the same time. (Dr Joy)

Healing Crisis:
This often occurs especially during the 1st week as the body starts to detox and toxins are removed from a deeper cellular level. It is imperative that one drinks a lot of water especially that 1st week to flush out the toxins into the urine.

If you feel a little flu-like symptoms or an increase in the symptoms you were initially taking the Mangosteen Juice for, this is likely a healing crisis and a “good thing”. Drink lots of water and the symptoms should go away.

Systemic yeast (Candida):
It’s just that... systemic, it is everywhere in a person’s system. When you begin doing something that will enhance cellular activity and begin to kill the yeast, there’s going to be a major detoxification response and it’s ESSENTIAL that anyone with severe conditions keep their water intake high.... (Dr. Joy) The little amount of natural sugar in Mangosteen Juice does NOT seem to worsen yeast.

Base line for water:
At least 2 1/2 litre water per day or more, depending on a person’s size/weight.
Water is necessary to help the body remove the toxins through urine, faeces, respiration, and perspiration.

Diabetes:
Mangosteen can have a profound effect on the blood sugar (BS) so it’s critical to watch the BS closely to watch for a reaction (drop/spike in blood sugar). If your BS shows an initial reaction to taking Mangosteen, cut back the dosage and increase back up as tolerated.

Always work with your practitioner to adjust your diabetic medications.

Remember insulin can promote atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), so Mangosteen can be beneficial to a diabetic in many ways because of the multiple systems it seems to affect and protect in the body.

90ml is considered 1 fruit exchange.

Sugar sensitivity or regulation problems:
Hypoglycaemia: always take the Mangosteen with protein. (Helps prevent spiking and give the xanthones a chance to enhance the cell sensitivity to insulin.)

Can also begin with 1 tsp. 3x a day and increase as the body becomes more stable. (Dr Joy)

Potentially lowers cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

Constipation, Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS): (Mainly constipation; not as much diarrhoea)

Crohn’s / Ulcerative Colitis: Start with 1 tablespoon diluted in a glass of water: 1 - 2x / day. As tolerated, work the way up to 3x / day THEN as tolerated work up to 30ml / day

(IBS with diarrhoea seems to react well to mangosteen, often having quick resolution of symptoms)

Reflux Esophagitis:
Dilute Mangosteen Juice in a glass of water and take with food. During the 1st week heartburn many arise often as a healing crisis (see above). If symptoms don’t go away, try a Ph Tamer (Seattle).

Drug Interactions:
In eight years of use by more than 2million people worldwide there have been no reported cases of drug interactions or contraindications for usage (other than with rare Polycythemia Vera).

Coumadin/Warfarin and blood thinners:
We don’t see problems in general with any medication including blood thinners. We recommend starting with a consistent dose of ½ to 1 teaspoon 3x per day for the first few days and doing a blood test (Protime / INR) 3-4 days later to be safe. Thereafter gradual increase may be recommended.

Surgery:
As a general safety precaution, we recommend stopping Mangosteen consumption for 2-3 days BEFORE surgery to prevent any rare bleeding. Since Mangosteen is a natural “Cox 1 & 2 inhibitor”, it will minimise problems associated with surgery. Mangosteen can potentially help with wound healing and recovery post surgery.

Prevention:
In my opinion one of the greatest advantages of taking Mangosteen Juice is to potentially PREVENT chronic disease.

With the 43+ Xanthone anti-oxidants contained in puréed whole fruit Mangosteen Juice, I recommend the juice to be consumed daily and forever.

Here’s why: Everyone is in different states of health. We didn’t get out of a healthy balance overnight (often taking years), so we shouldn’t expect to correct our healthy imbalance overnight.

Realize that 50% of people die from heart attacks and strokes; and 23% will die from cancer.

In Feb 2004, Time Magazine did a full length article “The Secret Killer – the surprising link between INFLAMMATION and heart attacks, cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases.” Most of these diseases are SILENT and do NOT produce any symptoms for years, until it’s too late.

With all the disability from diseases of chronic aging, and with Mangosteen Juice being a natural anti-inflammatory, ARE YOU COMMITTED to your and your family’s health and the possibility of potentially preventing these health challenges naturally?

Even if your current symptoms don’t go away completely, consider taking Mangosteen Juice regardless to potentially stop free radical damage and chronic inflammation – the implicated culprit in many of today’s age-related illnesses.

Disclaimer:
This information is NOT intended to treat, diagnose or cure disease. Please also note that the company, XanGo, LLC and this document make no medical or therapeutic claims about the product, XanGo® Juice made with the whole mangosteen fruit purée, rich in Xanthones. Xanthones have been researched by independent scientists and medical doctors who have no affiliation with XanGo.

Many of the abstracts of their papers can be found at http://www.pubmed.com/

The Xanthones from the Mangosteen have been shown in laboratory studies to be powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories and to have other, special properties. However, laboratory results do not guarantee that the same will happen in the human body. Mangosteen is a whole food supplement and not a drug, therefore no one can say that the Mangosteen will cure, treat, or prevent any specific condition or symptom.

The U. S. government, however, has determined and stated that increasing the amount of plant based foods and supplements in our diet improves our health and decreases the incidence of chronic disease. Look at the available science of the Mangosteen and look at the experiences of those who are already taking it. Then answer for yourself – "Does Mangosteen make sense to you?"

Any testimonial you hear or read about is not to suggest that you might have the same effect. We merely say, “Try XanGo; you might be surprised by the results.” Please keep us updated of your progress. Your written testimonial will be sincerely appreciated.
