How can one fruit possibly do so much good?

In an interview with Drs J. Frederick Templeman, MD (Medical Director at Phytoceutical Research, LLC) and David A. Morton, Ph.D. (Gross Anatomy Course Director & Assistant Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Utah) the doctors look at the available science on the mangosteen and then ask the challenging question, "Does mangosteen make sense to you?" ...

How does one fruit address so many conditions in the body? Isn't it just too good to be true?

The focus is on the xanthone molecule. It is an amazing structure – having double bonds in the molecule – which right away suggests stability, making it harder for the molecule to be broken – and what is unique about the xanthone molecule is that it has different side groups – it's called R-groups in chemistry – at each of these numbered positions. Every time you alter the side group on that molecule, the molecule will have a different function in the body...

And why is this important? Pharmaceutical companies use that to make drugs. That is what Merck, Phizer, Roche and all these companies do in order to play with a pharmaceutical to get different spectrums of activity to kill different types of bacteria and also allow for different half-lives for different drugs.

So a company will spend a hundred million dollars on average to get a pill out to market and all they do is they pay scientists to play around in a lab with side groups.

The parent structure never changes for the particular drug. Had this been Penicillin for example, which it incidentally does resemble, the parent part (core structure) would stay the same, but the functional groups on the ends would be changed. Every time they do that, you get a different Penicillin.

And that is what is so amazing about mangosteen. Here we have a NATURAL substance that doesn’t need to be played with, doesn’t have to be manipulated in a lab, that doesn’t have residue, and is not impure. It already – in nature – exists in all 43+ different forms. ALL IN ONE FRUIT.

That is the single most important thing regarding mangosteen and is the reason the fruit is safe, efficacious and the reason why one plant can address so many illnesses. If you understand this one thing, then you will understand why mangosteen in its purest, most natural – whole food form – has touched so many lives, in so many different ways in medical arenas that have no relation to each another.

Amazing as it is, this fact also seems to be the biggest stumbling block to the ‘credibility’ of this fruit. The fact that it does so many different things… When people hear the testimonials – one after the next in totally different areas of health … Parkinson’s, MS, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s – it overwhelms them. Come on! How can a fruit do all that? It’s impossible…

But if you understand that each xanthone is specific, and that each xanthone does something different, and that each xanthone has a different side group and therefore a different activity in your body, it does not shock you that it does so ...many different things. Every different xanthone (alpha-mangostin; gamma-mangostin; mangostin; garcinone E…) with its different side group targets a different disease. 43 xanthones in this fruit.
